I have a slight obsession with botanical ceramics, so much so that I incorporate palm and floral motifs into pieces from my local studio. I’m experimenting with different techniques, most recently I used laser cut palms pressed into clay to make a decorative tray with irregular edges and an olive glaze. I like this prototype so much I’m making more in various colors to sell in my local shop.

In the studio, I’m learning how to carve designs out of confetti, use kiln-safe overlays, and do couture decorations with clay leaves and flowers. Soon I’ll start practicing hand drawing techniques. I’m working with denser pottery and light clay bodies, but I want to work with porcelain as well.

While practical plates and bowls are needed for everyday meals, it’s also lovely to have beautiful plates or utensils to serve your meals on. Botanical prints always bring joy to me, and here are some of my favourites.
